Imitation Theory and Experimental
نویسندگان
چکیده
We introduce a generalized theoretical approach to study imitation and subject it to rigorous experimental testing. In our theoretical analysis we nd that the di¤erent predictions of previous imitation models are due to di¤erent informational assumptions, not to di¤erent behavioral rules. It is more important whom one imitates rather than how. In a laboratory experiment we test the di¤erent theories by systematically varying information conditions. We nd signi cant e¤ects of seemingly innocent changes in information. Moreover, the generalized imitation model predicts the di¤erences between treatments well. The data provide support for imitation on the individual level, both in terms of choice and in terms of perception. But imitation is not unconditional. Rather individuals propensity to imitate more successful actions is increasing in payo¤ di¤erences. JEL codes: C72; C91; C92; D43; L13.

Objective: the present research aimed to determine the effect of reciprocal imitation training on social skills of children with Autism. Materials & Methods: This was a qusi-experimental study with repeated measures. Fourteen 5 to 7 years old children with high function autism (3 girls and 11 boys) were selected in convenience from who were referred to one private clinic at Tehran in 2012-20...
متن کاملGeneral processes, rather than "goals," explain imitation errors.
The goal-directed theory of imitation (GOADI) states that copying of action outcomes (e.g., turning a light switch) takes priority over imitation of the means by which those outcomes are achieved (e.g., choice of effector or grip). The object < effector < grip error pattern in the pen-and-cups task provides strong support for GOADI. Experiment 1 replicated this effect using video stimuli. Exper...
متن کاملNeonatal Imitation: Theory, Experimental Design, and Significance for the Field of Social Cognition
Neonatal imitation has rich implications for neuroscience, developmental psychology, and social cognition, but there is little consensus about this phenomenon. The primary empirical question, whether or not neonatal imitation exists, is not settled. Is it possible to give a balanced evaluation of the theories and methodologies at stake so as to facilitate real progress with respect to the prima...

Recent studies have reported the discovery of a group of neurons in the motor cortex of the brain's gray. These neurons are called mirror neurons. Rizzolatti and colleagues in 1990s discovered the first mirror neuron system in monkeys in the University of Parma. Mirror neurons in brain are responsible for understanding the actions and intentions of others. The mirror neuron system has an import...
